Thanks for the share, Elizabeth! I appreciate that you are championing South/East Asia voices. So much needed - from writing to perspectives on policies, we truly need more of these voices out there.
Thank you Elizabeth, an engaging set of perspectives. I am very impressed with Robert Wu's attempts to integrate and compate Western and Eastern narratives
Great roundup of many diverse voices, cultures and genres. Thanks for scouring Substack for your readers to find unique Asian voices. I'm going to check out some of your selections.
Cool! I will check these out. The hard thing about trying to bridge the cultural gap is that so much of the best windows into life in those countries for someone in another place is not in English and so much of our international connections are in English. This is why I left America and spent 10 years trying my best not to speak English.
At least half of my friends are Mandarin and Japanese speakers who don’t speak English. Their perspective is very different from almost anything I’ve seen written in English and many are different from the mainstream in their cultures too.
I guess AI translations will slowly help bridge the gap too.
