Hello friends,
Welcome to the new newsletter!
This is something that I’ve been toying with for the longest time - to add more valuable content beyond emailing you my blog posts. However, I have always resisted this because I have an uncomfortable relationship with email marketing.
As a minimalist, the last thing I want to do is to bombard you with content every week. I myself have trouble keeping up with my newsletter subscriptions; I don’t want to be part of this problem. However, I do want to, once in a blue moon, write an update or two - like why there’s suddenly no blog posts in May. (Short story: A very bad bout of flu and then a month of struggling with bad neck and shoulder pain that disrupted my sleep badly.) And sometimes, I just want to talk about non-bloggy stuff like books or TV shows I’ve read or even recipes!
But I find Mailerlite difficult to use. So difficult that I often end up giving up and not penning that note. And then, recently I found out that not all of you were receiving my emails! This, apparently was due to some technical issue that is making me pull my hair out as I tried to solve it.
Enter Substack.
Simple, intuitive, and best of all to my budget-friendly self, FREE. I couldn’t move here fast enough.
Many ways to access Commonplace Book
I once came across an author who resisted the idea of creating an author newsletter. Like me, she believed in giving her readers control and options when it came to consuming content. So, she created a blog where she posted updates about her work. Those who preferred getting email updates can opt to “follow” the blog. This is how Substack works, so I’m glad to give you this option. So you can get my newsletter via:
Email
RSS Feed: Just plug https://elizabethtai.substack.com/feed into Feedly or any other RSS reader app. Substack has an RSS reader too.
Directly online at https://elizabethtai.substack.com
What you’ll get with the Commonplace Book
I’ll still notify you when I publish my blog posts. A while back, some of you responded that you don’t mind not getting the full blog post via email (I do write massive tomes), so these will be an excerpt with a link to the blog post on the website.
Bonus: Once a month I will write a personal, unedited letter about where I am on my journey to carve out a simpler, financially independent lifestyle for myself. You won’t find this on the blog.
The letter may also include miscellaneous stuff such as books I’m reading, shows I’m watching and articles I find thought provoking.
Well, that’s it. I hope you’ll continue staying with me on this journey. Thank you for trusting me with your inbox (and browser). :)
