Dear readers,
I’m a writer with many interests.
That’s putting it mildly.
One of my favourite party tricks is to entertain people with the twists and turns my life has taken. Oh, that sudden epiphany that I totally needed to move to Australia and that random detour to start a nursing career and sharp turn to content marketing? Totally, par the course.
My writing is much the same.
My parents (and my bank account) are eternally grateful that I have somehow settled into a career fueled by a passion that I’ve not gotten tired of — writing.
But if only they knew how much I jumped around that field!
I write fiction, creative non-fiction, news blasts, lifestyle features, SEO-optimised posts, technical writing guides — I often joke that I’m trying out every branch of the content/communications field.
I compound this “problem” by having too many interests — diseases, sci-fi novels and shows, personal knowledge management systems, coding, travel … to name a few.
I confuse Google. Heck, I’m pretty sure I confuse some readers.
The typical advice states that I should niche down and create separate websites or newsletters to cater to specific audiences. However, I’m not fond of cutting myself into little pieces and scattering myself on the Internet.
This newsletter will showcase all my writing.
Tai Tales is the place where I can be the generalist writer that I love to be, and connect with fellow writers and readers. Here, I share words that I’ve written, whether it is fiction, creative non-fiction or memoir.
Right now, Tai Tales may have an over-emphasis on fiction, because it’s the form of writing I seem strangely secretive and anxious about. I’ve spent most of my life hiding my tales behind pseudonyms as I roam the content world as a professional writer. It’s time to break that habit.
What you’ll get as a subscriber
This is a weekly-ish newsletter.
You are automatically subscribed to all sections in Tai Tales, but you can manage your subscription by choosing which sections of the newsletter to receive. You can also choose to follow the newsletter via the Substack Reader app.
The sections of the newsletter:
Newsletter: Personal essays about the ups and downs of being a writer and other topics. There will be tips, resources, and links to new content I’ve published outside Substack. (Once a month … or more, if I feel particularly inspired)
Shorts: Short stories of various genres, but mostly speculative fiction. (As and when)
Distant Stars: This is where I share my space opera series. I’ve written up to three books, and will be releasing it chapter by chapter, weekly. (Once a week)
Money Diaries: This newsletter began as a way to notify my readers of blog posts on my website, and I’m mostly known for my personal finance content. I still have a healthy appreciation of managing my money and will be sharing my thoughts, learnings and insights about personal finance here. (Once a month)
