The personal newsletter renaissance
Tools like Substack are empowering writers to write freely and reach their readers directly
Hello friend,
I’m not sure about you, but these days I dread signing up for offers or service because I know what will follow next. I will be added to their mailing list and a deluge of email marketing will come my way.
However, a certain type of email is gaining popularity among readers: The personal newsletter.
And I’m welcoming it!
A personal newsletter doesn’t always sell you things. (If it does, it’s a marketing newsletter.) Instead, personal newsletters provide you unique insight into the newsletter author’s thoughts and world.
In a world full of content that wants to market you a product or service, personal newsletters are a breath of fresh air for readers and writers alike.
My latest article, Email’s hottest trend: The Substack newsletter, explore its resurgence and the tools that empower writers to start sharing and reaching their readers easily, free.
Aside: Consuming content mindfully
My foray into personal newsletters — reading and writing them — is part of my effort to curate and create better content. (In case you missed it, I wrote about a healthy information diet in my last my newsletter.)
One of the bad habits I want to eliminate, is my habit of listening to something in the shower. (I know, I know! It is as crazy as it sounds.) I’m trying to embrace more quiet in my life and I find the silence strangely unnerving.
How did we live without the convenience of carrying our content everywhere we go, including the shower? I can’t remember!
Anyway, have a great week ahead,
Liz
